Due to the rapid outbreak of the Coronavirus Disease, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has announced the temporary closing of theatres tonight and will remain close until March 30. The announcement comes after the three confirmed cases of Coronavirus found in Mumbai. There have been 14 confirmed cases reported in Maharashtra. The virus has infected more than 75 people in the country.
The Mumbai theatre shut down announcement has been done after Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that theatres in New Delhi will remain close until March 31. This is a big move for the film industry as several movies were scheduled to release in the coming weeks.
This weekend Angrezi Medium Movie has released in the theatres. But due to this announcement, it will be difficult for the movie to recover investments at the box office.
Sooryavanshi has also decided to change its release date. International releases like No Time to Die and Fast & Furious 9 have also been postponed owing to the Covid-19 outbreak. The movie was first scheduled to be released in cinemas on March 24.
Apart from theatres in Mumbai but the Maharashtra government has also closed cinema halls in Pune, Nagpur, Navi Mumbai.
The government has urged people to stay safe and take necessary measures to protect themselves from the contagious virus.
