It’s been almost four months that Pakistaan has blocked Bollywood movies in its movie theatre. This was done when Indian cinema has decided to block Pakistani artists. Though this decision was taken but Pakistani theatre are getting weak financially. Approx 70% of revenue is being generated by Bollywood movies in these theatre.

Since it has started hitting local theatre bad in terms of finances. Pakistani PM Nawaz Shareef has asked his special team to look into this matter and is considering to remove ban.

He has created a team of panelist which is led by their IT minister Maryum Aurangzeb. This team also includes Irfan Siddiqui, PM’s adviser on national history and literary heritage, commerce secretary and an intelligence officer.

Under its import policy order, Pakistan had included Indian films in the list of banned items in the last decade. As per procedures adopted over the years, the commerce ministry issued no-objection certificates (NOCs) at the request of the information ministry for import of Indian films.

The ministry has decided to screen few movies may be 2 – 3 per month through NOC for screening in Pakistani theatre.

When one local theatre was contacted. Nadeem Mandviwalla, who is owner of Atrium Cinema. Which is situated at Karachi. He said “We can survive a temporary suspension. But, if it continues, cinema owners might have to shut shop,”. He also added that “approx 70% of our revenue is coming by showing Bollywood and Hollywood movies”.
Well Indian Cinema can survive without hiring an Pakistani Artist, but seems that Pakistani theatre can not survive without showing Bollywood movies.
Let’s wait for the final verdict upon the same, would for sure update.
